What the ranking considers
- Google Maps signals: rating, review volume, and recurring recent themes.
- Tripadvisor visibility: especially useful for international-visitor expectations.
- Official operating information: city tourism and market-authority sources take priority for schedules.
- Visitor usefulness: access, layout, crowd conditions, market format, and clarity for a first visit.
- Food and distinctiveness: whether the market offers a meaningful reason to choose it over another nearby option.
Why the published order is editorial
Raohe outranks Shilin in Taipei because it offers a stronger all-around first visit despite Shilin’s larger global name. Ruifeng outranks Liuhe in Kaohsiung because its current review signal and breadth are stronger. Historic or local markets can remain in a top five even when their rating is lower, provided they offer a genuinely different experience.
Ratings are snapshots
Google and Tripadvisor ratings and review totals are dated research snapshots. They are not scraped or presented as live data. Every market page links out to the relevant sources so visitors can verify current information.
Schedule confidence
Official sources take priority, but discrepancies are disclosed. Tainan receives special treatment because rotating schedules and similarly named markets create real planning risks. The site never treats a scheduled operating day as a guarantee that every stall will open.
Future live data
Any future Google data integration must use an approved Google Places API implementation with required attribution and caching rules. Tripadvisor content should use an approved partner API or official widget. Do not scrape either platform.
