The quick read

Why go

Most people know this one by its other name, Tonghua, and it is the market we recommend when Taipei 101 is already on your evening plan. It sits a short hop from the Xinyi towers, but it belongs to the neighborhood, not the tourists. Office workers, families, students. Dinner, not spectacle.

The braised food stalls are the draw for us, along with a well-known spot for tangyuan, the glutinous rice balls served iced in summer and hot in winter. It is smaller and calmer than Raohe or Shilin, and that is exactly why some people end up liking it more.

Our tip: Stalls here keep their own hours and some wind down before the street officially closes. Come for dinner, not a midnight snack.

What to eat

  • Braised foods
  • Taiwanese pork belly bun
